Red Hill Rise Proposal / Maxwan + MS architekti

The Maxwan, in collaboration with MS architekti, designed Red Hill Rise proposal is a mixed use building on top of a metro station, which includes offices and retail located along a major spine road connecting the airport and historical city center of Prague. They came up with the idea of ‘breaking-up’ the building volume and inserting landscape and public space in between. More images and architects’ description after the break.

reSITE 2013: Collaborative Ideas For More Livable Cities, Workshop Results

One of the most important parts of the second annual reSITE festival, which is aimed to change the city to a place suitable for life, was an international multidisciplinary workshop with students from all over the world.

The workshop, co-organized by a ARCHIP - Architectural Institute in Prague, was held from June 21st to 23rd. It was tutored by renowned expert Cecil Balmond from Balmond Studio. The workshop participants were selected by an international jury from a number of people from various fields - architects, designers, cultural managers, programmers, designers and representatives of other specializations, to create multidisciplinary teams. These teams of researches colaborated for three days on a design concept of the future mobile pavilion, which will become a distinguishing feature of the festival in the upcoming years.

A couple of months ago we told you about reSITE Conference 2013, the largest event of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe. During the conference, the reSITE dPAV Competition Workshop also took place. Led by Cecil Balmond, formerly of Arup Engineers and currently leading Balmond Studio in London, and Tyson Hosmer, Lead Designer, Balmond Studio, dPAV: 2.5 Days in Prague competition workshop was a 2.5 days intensive and collaborative investigation to compete to design the future reSITE pavilion to be used in urban design festivals around Central and Eastern Europe.

'Prague: Bridge-Building over the Vltava River' Competition Entry / Juráš Lasovský

The intention of architect Juráš Lasovský for the ‘Prague: Bridge-Building over the Vltava River’ competition was to disrupt the serenity of the Prague basin landscape by proposing a residential bridge connecting the quarters of Podolí, Císařská louka and Smíchov. While classical bridges tend to create a connection between two places, this residential bridge is regarded as an opportunity to create an attractive space above the river. It becomes a space with residential premises as well as a sort of esplanade from which people get the chance to observe the city life around them. Their concept, which won an honorable mention, makes a lively and vibrant community that joins both sides of the Vltava River by means of social activities in a dynamic space. reSITE 2013: Collaborative Ideas For Livable Cities Festival and Conference

reSITE, the international festival about collaborative and sustainable urban planning, continues into its second year with more interesting themes and guests with the goal to transform Prague into a modern European metropolis at the center of the urbanism world from June 19-23. The main theme of the second annual conference (June 20-21) is Metropolis Central – reflecting Central European cities and the increasing number of young, creative people who are the infinite resources of those urban centers. Prague Activators Proposal / Juras Lasovsky, Zuzana Masna, Koen Hezemans

Designed by the collaboration of Juras Lasovsky, Zuzana Masna, and Koen Hezemans, their project "Prague Activators" suggests the idea of pontoons floating on the river. The pontoons "activate" the Vltava riverbank as well as various parts of the city of Prague. The proposal was originally awarded at the Skanska Bridging Prague Competition and was later elaborated into the current project Prague Activators. The project aims to motivate people not only to pursue activities on the riverside, but also to inspire them to care for the public space and alter it.
