Text description provided by the architects. Along the Tejo (Tagus) River and across from the city of Abrantes, the plot naturally establishes a border between the intricate layout of the surrounding houses and the river.
This project presents a footprint that takes advantage of the morphology of that frontier and becomes a unifying, continuous structure. This new building is capable of containing the whole functional program and involve all the pre-existing structures on the north front of the plot , creating a continuous, organic and smooth surface. Its structure, open and permeable, allows a direct and constant relation with the green surroundings throughout the whole extension of the building and all areas of the program.
The whole structure is walkable along a gallery that communicates with the outside and that allows access to all program areas on the inside. This gallery is marked by a façade composed of a repetition of vertical elements, a louvre that creates a physical barrier that is interrupted by openings that allow access to the camping site.
