Text description provided by the architects. The aim of the project was to redesign an existing industrial building, dated from the 80´s, for the headquarters of a company. One of the main company requests was that the redesign achieves the same quality as their standards in the market.
The strategy was to keep the existent structure, considering two goals: adapt the existing facilities to a new use, and create a new skin for the exterior image.
That skin was built with a two layers system of perforated aluminum sheet, assuming a triangular form that works both as a security system and as a solar shading protection.
The existing building was transformed into a large scale sculpture. In opposition to the cold form of the perforated metal sheet, a wood batten opens the personnel´s resting room and the control center to the exterior.
The cross created with the extension of the wood to the gates, defines the entry point: a small garden where a centenary olive tree was planted.
On the ground level, the main entry was assumed as a projected box in painted steel that works as a light box and where the company identity was located.
