The 2017 Visiting School to Chile aims at studying from architectural, urban, and territorial perspectives, a series of infrastructures that since the 1960s have been installed in Rapa Nui (Easter Island) because of its extraordinary strategic location in the South Pacific Ocean. In particular, the workshop will focus its attention in the Mataveri Airport which – being the remotest runway in the world – was paved in the 1960s by the United States for the installation of a (currently abandoned) strategic base and extended again by NASA in the 1980s to become emergency landing for space shuttles.

Jill Magid: The Proposal

The Proposal presents the climactic moment within artist Jill Magid's extended, multimedia project The Barragán Archives, which examines the legacy of Mexican architect and Pritzker Prize-winner Luis Barragán (1902–1988). The multi-year project poses piercing, radical, and pragmatic questions about the forms of power, public access, and copyright that construct artistic legacy.

Through this work, Magid asks, “What happens to an artist’s legacy when it is owned by a corporation and subject to a country’s laws where none of his architecture exists? Who can access it? Who can’t?”

In his will, Barragán split his archive into two parts. Along with the vast majority

LOBBY Magazine: "Sandcastles" in Puerto Rico

In the heart of the Caribbean Sea, the island of Puerto Rico shines like a newly polished emerald—bound by history, nurtured by culture, full of life, incredible food, vivacious music, warm people, spectacular beaches and a promising design community. But its economic crisis has put the island on the global spotlight in the most unfortunate of ways, with the international media pessimistically dubbing it ‘the Greece of the Caribbean’. Like Greece, there's much more to la isla bonita (‘the pretty island’, as it was known around the world) than economic and political woes, and if we were to take a look inside the island, peeking through the leaves of its palm trees and luscious fauna, we'd find a people who are determined to succeed and survive; a people who are creative and bold. That's why this summer, we're lobbying for Puerto Rico.
