The Design Matters Conference is the world’s only dedicated annual meeting that seeks to bring top designers, journalists and civic leaders into exploratory dialogue with those not-for-profit professionals and volunteers charged with creating cultural programs (exhibitions, tours, lectures and symposia, festivals and films, youth outreach) to spur broader public interest in architecture and design.
If you’re involved with a not-for-profit architectural, design or educational institution, we invite you to submit your ideas to our Open Call for Presenters. Submission deadline is August 15.
About the Open Call
It's no secret that some of the best learning at the Design Matters Conference comes from your colleagues and peers managing the daily needs of architecture and design organizations. We welcome ideas big and small and from organizations of all sizes. Applicants may choose to directly address part of our 2016 Conference Theme, or share their latest work on a topic of regular interest to most all Conference attendees. Such presentations might explain how you've managed to reach an expanded audience, implement a successful wrinkle to your marketing or fundraising work, embark on an ambitious program or develop new opportunities for presenting digital content.
Above all, we're looking for creative ideas. While there is no preset scorecard, we do look for a mix of novelty and usefulness.
Note: Selected speakers are eligible to receive Conference registration discounts.
Presentation Formats
There are two ways to get involved:
Present a 10-minute lightning talk sharing key takeaways from a new program, product or strategy developed by your organization
Lead a 60-minute breakout session that either (a) imparts a skill or new thinking essential for architecture organization staff members or (b) explores a case study related to the Conference theme.
