ODA’s 71 White Street in Brooklyn Incorporates the Site's Graffitied Walls Into the Design

Bushwick, now famed for its art, night life and abundance of green spaces, is one of the fastest gentrifying neighbourhoods in Brooklyn. ODA New York's 71 White Street will be the latest in new developments taking over former industrial buildings in the neighborhood -- but with a twist. Using the foundation of a former 1930s manufacturing building, 71 White will preserve its graffitied brick exterior, maintaining the character of the neighbourhood. The Experience of Architectural Space: A Design Experiment

What is architectural space? How is it perceived and experienced by the user? What reactions does it produce within the human mind and body? The Experience of Architectural Space is a interactive design experiment conducted by students of Hunter College. The experiment takes place within Natasha Johns-Messenger's interactive installation within El Museo de Los Sures, ThreeFold, curated by Melissa Bianca Amore.

The installation plays with the participant's perception of the gallery space and ultimately with the very act of perception itself. Subjects in the experiment will enter the gallery space and have their pulse read at three critical junctures within the

AA Studio Designs Redevelopment of Disused Dock Building

AA Studio have revealed their plans for the development of Brooklyn's iconic New York Dock Company building, transforming the 230,000 square foot structure into a mixed-use complex of six commercial spaces on the ground floor, 70 residential loft apartments, and a rooftop deck and gardens above.

The design aims to be as faithful to the original structure as possible, retaining the existing poured concrete columns and walls and exposing the high concrete ceilings. As one of the earliest structures to use the technology, the retention and celebration of these features is a key aspect of the building's conservation.

Read on after the break for more on the design

Healthy Urbanism Proposal / Interface Studio Architects

The proposal for Healthy Urbanism is a collaboration between a visionary client, a health scientist and ISA - Interface Studio Architects to investigate the potential for health outcomes to influence large-scale neighborhood and building design. The consulting team developed a conceptual tool in order to bring spatial design and health outcomes into communication with one another. “The Matrix” is a key proposal of the work which creates a bridge between health-related research and literature, factors, health impacts, program, and design parameters.
