Renens Railway Station in Switzerland has been revitalized with the new "Rayon Vert" pedestrian bridge, a key feature of the Léman 2030 project, designed to manage growing passenger traffic. The bridge’s striking blue polycarbonate roof from Rodeca enhances the station’s visual appeal while providing sustainable functionality. The light, airy structure creates a welcoming atmosphere, improving the public space.
Renens, a crucial transport hub in the Lausanne region, has seen major modernization efforts to accommodate increasing passenger numbers, expected to surpass 100,000 daily by 2030. The project, developed by Farra Zoumboulakis & Associés, Sottas SA, and landscape architects, took four years to complete.
A Blend of Green and Blue
The "Rayon Vert" bridge (meaning "green ray") symbolizes sustainability and blends nature with architecture. Its design allows climbing plants to integrate with the structure, while the blue polycarbonate roof complements the green landscape. Spanning 150 meters, the bridge connects the north and south sides of the station, offering easy access to platforms.
Custom Design and Materials
The bridge’s blue polycarbonate roof, made from Rodeca’s specially developed PC 2630-25-6 HD U-panels, was created through close collaboration with architect Emmanuel Colomb. The panels, delivered between 2017 and 2023, offer a balance of light transmission and shade, ensuring a pleasant lighting atmosphere even on cloudy days.
Durability and Efficiency
The PC 2630-25-6 U-panel, with its six-layer construction, provides excellent thermal insulation and light transmission. Its Longlife Plus coating ensures enhanced UV protection and long-lasting durability, with a 15-year guarantee. The panels used at Renens combine petrol and petrol opal shades, allowing for optimal light diffusion.
A Symbol of Modernization
The "Rayon Vert" bridge is more than just a transport link—it symbolizes the region's modernization. In recognition of its design, the bridge won the Flâneur d'Or 2023 award for exemplary pedestrian infrastructure. The blue polycarbonate roof from Rodeca plays a central role in transforming Renens station into a vibrant, modern landmark.
