Alcon Lighting crafts and distributes high-quality commercial LED lighting throughout America. Alcon's perimeter Cove Lighting, Baffled Square Can Light, Skyline Architectural LED Light, Illusione Recessed Downlight were used in Alta Housing, Located in Palo Alto, California, USA.
Alta Housing is Palo Alto's first approved affordable housing project since 2013 and the inaugural project for its new Affordable Housing Combining District. Built along El Camino Real, it offers easy access to parks, shops, and public transit. The project features storefront spaces, public art, and sustainable, secure homes, with design influenced by community input and research.
Minuscule Lighting Design collaborated with PYATOK Architecture + Urban Design to design the apartment building's lighting system. Finding high-quality lighting for affordable housing presents a challenge. In addition to budget constraints, the regulations were restrictive in the wattage allowance for corridors and other areas. The design team wanted to avoid the corridors feeling institutional or narrow. They needed to find a lighting solution that gave them a warm, open feel. To achieve this, they chose Alcon's perimeter Cove Lighting in 3000K, using a fixed length to reduce costs. This lighting choice enabled them to achieve a high-quality appearance within budget. They choose a soft white 3000K—warm but not too yellow.
