Characteristics
Adaptable, stable, durable, resistant, easy-care
The Fachkrankenhaus für die Seele psychiatric hospital in Sehnde exemplifies how architecture and healing can be integrated. The tsj-architekten team designed a new clinic building that consolidates decentralized inpatient services, enabling individualized therapies and comprehensive care. The principle behind the design was to create a stimulating environment for the body, mind, and soul. The HEWI user-friendly and barrier-free solutions were selected to ensure consistent planning and maximum comfort throughout the facility.
The new specialist psychiatric hospital is located in Sehnde/Köthenwald, Lower Saxony, and is a significant milestone in the provision of sustainable and highly specialized psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care. The modern complex spans 15,000 square meters and includes eleven treatment wards, 30 clinic places, and up to 350 fully in-patient beds, making it one of Germany's largest and most advanced psychiatric-psychotherapeutic specialist hospitals.
Enhanced Accessibility and Orientation
The buildings are interconnected on three levels by a circular path, a sort of loop, to facilitate easy navigation and access to therapy services. This design minimizes distances and creates a welcoming environment for patients and staff alike. The loop also serves as a focal point for communal spaces, such as the entrance foyer, dining room, sports hall, and meeting rooms, promoting interaction and a sense of community.
HEWI's barrier-free 477/801 range and System 900 sanitary products enhance user comfort and independence in the bathroom, which are crucial aspects in modern healthcare settings. These products are made of solid-color polyamide, making them resistant to medical preparations and cleaning agents, ensuring longevity and durability. Thoughtfully designed bathroom accessories, such as shower curtain rails, toilet roll holders, and waste bins, complement the design aesthetic of the hospital while prioritizing safety and hygiene.
HEWI's classic lever handle System 111, with its minimalist design and matt black finish, seamlessly integrates into the architecture. These handles provide maximum color contrast to the white doors, serving as functional elements and design statements. They enhance the overall ambiance of the facility while ensuring accessibility and security.
