Wellness Garden With Corten Finish in Doetinchem | Alpha Wellness Sensations

This intervention incorporates spa features into a private residence garden in Doetinchem, The Netherlands, with two custom pieces by Alpha Wellness Sensations: a bathtub, and a sauna.

The company is a Belgian wellness manufacturer that offers furniture for indoor and outdoor spa projects, for which customers and designers can choose between standard models and their bespoke versions. In this garden’s case, both the bathtub and the sauna have been tailored to the garden with an exterior finish of Corten steel.

The project started with the intention to make lockdown and retirement more comfortable within the owner’s residence. It consists of a wood-fired hot tub made of corten steel and a large Eclipse sauna with a matching shower. The three elements were integrated into the garden by round stone paths on the grass.

The Eclipse sauna incorporates a dedicated dressing area with a bench, coat racks, and shelves. Additionally, an integrated infrared heater is positioned on the back of the second bench in the dressing room. Within the sauna compartment, a two-level bench occupies one side and a single-level bench occupies the other, offering users the flexibility to select seating height and exposure to heat.

The Luxury type benches are crafted from ayous wood, characterized by a smoothly rounded, inward-sloping shape. The interior finish is made of hemlock profiles and the partition between the dressing area and the sauna is made of safety glass. The back wall is adorned with salt stones, complemented by adjustable LED lighting behind the stones and the backrests. The sauna also includes a Bluetooth-enabled speaker.

The AMA Titano shower stands outside the sauna, over matching corten slats on the floor and thermo ayous wood.

The round hot tub made of corten steel, 180 cm in diameter, is completely covered in 2 mm-thick corten steel. When the corrosion process of the steel is finished, it remains stable. With the wood-fired oven, the water temperature is noticeable through the noise of rising heat bubbles. The bench is made of thermo ayous wood. This wood also serves as the floor of the shower tray.
