Lamberts manufactures cast glass which is glass formed by rolling processes. The company uses state-of-the-art machinery and is a leading factory of high-quality architectural glass with the lowest CO2 emissions. Linit® Ecoglass, a profiled glass from Lamberts, was used in Brighton College, School of Science and Sport, located in Brighton, England.
Brighton College was designed by OMA / Ellen van Loon. The building contains facilities for both sports and science departments. For this project, LINIT® EcoGlass P 26/60/7 in a low iron, 504, TCH (toughened, color ceramic frit, heat-soak-test) version was used.
LINIT from Lamberts is an alkali-lime glass. It's a special form of cast glass consisting mainly of sand, lime, soda, and dolomite. These raw materials are carefully melted down in a cast glass furnace. The glass strip taken from the oven is bent into a U-shape whilst still in its plastic phase when it is then cooled and hardened. After the closely monitored cooling process, the desired lengths are automatically cut, checked for quality, and packaged in batches in transport foil.
