This project, completed in 2012, was for the newly renovated Hargrett and Russel Libraries at the University of Georgia in Athens. Forty table top glass display cases made in wood were built by Zone Display Cases alongside the team at the Tennessee-based 1220 Exhibits Inc.
Location | Athens, GA, USA |
Type | Wooden Table Cases |
Collection | Books, manuscripts, photographs, maps and broadsides |
Zone’s scope was to design and built fully functional table displays including all steel frames, glass bonnets, locking and opening mechanisms, and desiccant trays. These tables were then shipped in Nashville, Tennessee, for the addition of all the beautiful millwork by 1220 Exhibits Inc.
The masterpiece was an enormous 14-foot-long table top glass display case to display the original Constitution of the Confederate States of America, signed in 1861.
Challenge
The challenge for Zone Display Cases was to deliver high-end museum-quality cases that would correspond to the design intent of the project designer, Haley-Kohler, who’s precise vision included beautiful flawless millwork and modern climate control.
Solutions
The collaboration and communication with 1220 Exhibits Inc. was instrumental to the successful delivery of the project. The table display cases for this project were of the highest conservation standard and met the requirements of the design.
