Interiors are such an integral part of one's living, playing and working experience that the design of an interior space has gone beyond solely aesthetics or function. It is also about crafting a space for occupant comfort and well-being. How a space makes one feel and the impact on one's health has become as important as how a space looks and functions.

Open Call: Winter Stations Design Competition 2017

Winter Stations is now embarking on its third-year, opening an international design competition to bring temporary public art installations to The Beaches, exhibited to celebrate Toronto's winter waterfront landscape. This year we are expecting to include up to six lifeguard stands, including an addition three by invited universities, across Balmy, Kew and Ashbridges Bay beaches located in the heart of the Beach community, south of Queen Street East, between Woodbine and Victoria Park Avenues. These utilitarian structures are to be used as the armature for temporary installations, which will need to be able to withstand the rigours of Toronto winter weather.  This is a single-stage open international competition, welcoming artists, designers, architects and landscape architects to submit concept proposals for Winter Stations' temporary artwork installations.

Call for Entries: 2017 Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence

The Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence celebrates urban places that are distinguished by quality design and their social and economic contributions to our nation’s cities. Winners offer creative placemaking solutions that transcend the boundaries between architecture, urban design and planning and showcase innovative thinking about American cities.

One Gold Medal of $50,000 and four Silver Medals of $10,000 will be awarded. Projects must be a real place, not just a plan or a program, and be located in the 48 contiguous United States.

Malcolm Reading Consultants Announces UK Holocaust Memorial International Design Competition

The UK Government and Malcolm Reading Consultants have announced today an international competition for the design of a new National Memorial to commemorate the events of the Holocaust.

To be located next to Parliament in Victoria Tower Gardens in London, the new national landmark will "demonstrate the UK’s commitment to honouring the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, providing a place for quiet reflection as well as large-scale national commemorations." The competition brief also calls for the design of a potential below-ground learning center to accompany the memorial, which would provide visitors with the opportunity to learn more about the history of the Holocaust and the context of the memorial itself.

Wujiang, as part of Suzhou in Jiangsu Province, is a world-renowned “Silk Capital” of China, possessing immeasurable cultural power. Queen Hur Memorial Park Design Competition (India)

Ÿ"Queen Hur Memorial Park Construction Project" is promoted in joint as a result of the 2015 Korea-India Summit on reinforcing cultural and personal exchanges between the two countries. The project is to reorganize the existing Queen Hur Memorial Park located in Ayodhya, India, and to extend the park in the riverside area next to the memorial park to construct the memorial park newly for connecting to the adjacent urban fabric, and commercial and cultural facilities.

Abbesses and Chateau Rouge are demonstrative of the great socio-economic divide currently installed in Paris. Only a few hundred metres apart, the difference between plush 'bobo' Abbesses and relatively deprived Chateau Rouge could not be more distinct. They both share a common urban element, the market. This competition proposes the design of a small intervention in either or both sites to further support these social infrastructures and provide improved market and exchange spaces. But through a collective architectural response, could these two sites be brought closer together?

This one-stage anonymous design contest seeks concept designs for Lithuania’s new €25M National Science and Innovation Centre along with an urban integration plan for Nemunas Island.

The Island has the potential to be an exceptional area of natural beauty and is strategically positioned within Kaunas, one of UNESCO’s global creative cities. Science Island, scheduled to open in 2018, will further develop Kaunas’ profile as one of the Baltics’ key knowledge and cultural hubs and as an increasingly popular visitor destination. Urban95 Challenge: Designing Cities That Support Healthy Child Development

Architecture at Zero 2016

The Architecture at Zero 2016 competition challenge is to create a zero net energy (ZNE) student housing project on the San Francisco State University campus. The competition has two components. First, entrants will create an overall site plan to accommodate the 784 housing units, student services, dining center, childcare facility, and parking. Second, entrants will design one building, in detail, to indicate ZNE performance.
