The first annual MICROHOME architecture competition is part of the Bee Breeders Small Scale Architecture Appreciation Movement, which hopes to highlight the fact that bigger isn’t always better. With great design and innovative thinking, small-scale architecture could change how this and the next generation view a residential property.

Competition A – architectural and urban competition. Competition A has open, idea (conceptual) character. The aim of the competition is to select the best project referring to the idea, subject and title of MBA KRK 2019 – “CONNECTIONS – the Town and the River”. “Power-Up Pasir Panjang” – Ideas Competition for the Pasir Panjang Power District is jointly organized by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore (URA) and Singapore Land Authority (SLA). The Pasir Panjang Power District was Singapore’s powerhouse in early post-war years, supplying much-needed power to fuel Singapore’s push towards industrialization. Vacated in the 1980s, the tranquil waterfront site rich in industrial heritage has the potential to be transformed into a distinctive lifestyle destination that will see the power station buildings repurposed to house new uses, attractive and inclusive public spaces created for people of all ages to enjoy and the site’s unique heritage celebrated.

Designregio Kortrijk is looking for 3 highly motivated and recently graduated designer-makers or creative artists to join in a regional residency program in Kortrijk, Belgium. The Designers in Residence Programme Kortrijk is a 3-month full time working residency from September to December 2019.

The Bee Breeders Global Housing Availability Challenge series in partnership with ARCHHIVE-BOOKS turns its attention on Paris for the next competition in the series. Paris, like so many other international cities around the world, is struggling with a huge affordable housing problem. Paris ranks in the top 10 most expensive cities to live in, meaning housing prices are naturally higher than in other regions in France.

The objective of the completion is to invite innovative, imaginative and purposeful design solutions for the reuse of the A-listed Egyptian Halls, a warehouse building completed in 1872 on Union Street, Glasgow by the celebrated, nineteenth-century architect Alexander Thomson (1817-1875).

Emaar Development is hosting an International Open Design competition for the Design of The Landmark at the heart of the ambitious new world-class mixed-use waterfront development Dubai Creek Harbour. The Development is a 5.6 Million sqm site and is expected to have 48,500 residential units with a population of 175,000 residents, when completed.

If skylines around the world are looking too much the same, is this because the new and important buildings are done by the big names (designers) from far away and not by the locals or the opposite is true? In 2017, the Portland Society for Architecture (PSA) asked citizens and visitors to provide their vision of Portland on blank maps of the city. PSA distributed these maps as a tool to encourage civic engagement in defining Portland. The completed maps offer unique perspectives and insight into how the city might grow and flourish.

On the evening of April 15th, 2019 the world held its breath as the Notre-Dame Cathedral was engulfed in flames. A few hours after the fire begun, the centuries-old cathedral had lost its entire roof, spire, and was severely damaged by the flames. Thankfully it was not completely destroyed and many priceless artifacts from the interior were saved.
