The debate is whether Macau can continue to be a liveable city with such deficit and lack in social spaces.
The competition challenges designers to bring back these spaces that once belonged to the locals, to create new social spaces and recover the lost connection between the city and its people.
We seek proposals and designs of an alternative form of social and entertainment architecture that diverges from the existing gambling culture.

Macau – The Reclaimed City of Casinos
More than 80% of the Macau Government’s revenue is from Casino taxes alone. (2018 – first quarter 2019)
Two-thirds of Macau today was built on top of land obtained through reclamation.
City development favours Casinos complexes rather than social spaces.
Opportunities
Macau, predicted to be the richest city on Earth, has the financial resources for urban scale development.
The Macau New Urban Zone, an ongoing large-scale land reclamation project, is currently at the planning phase.
Having alternative forms of entertainment or social spaces would benefit both locals and tourists.
