TAJ | The Incomplete Story of Love

The aim of the competition is to rejuvenate the land on the other side of the Taj Mahal, across the river; on the site of the Mehtab Bagh. The Mehtab Bagh must not remain a separate tourist destination to visit, just to get another view of the Mughal marvel, Taj Mahal; but act as an extension of its beautiful architecture, into a harmonious continuation on the other side of the river. Taj Mahal is often referred to as the symbol of love. The design intervention should aim at propagating the message of love through the language of art and architecture.

Participate in the Observatory of the 11th São Paulo Architecture Biennial

The Observatory of the 11th São Paulo Architecture Biennial aims to map, articulate and democratize instruments that provoke discussions, propose the editing and transformation of the city. It acknowledges punctual actions that, while placed in different circumstances, point out strategic matters to rethink the contemporary metropolis. The selected works are organized as individual files and include formats such as photo essays, guides of use and exploration of the city, manuals for the transformation and local action, investigation work, among many other formats. Besides the research carried out at the Studio of the Biennial (currently counting with more than 500 initiatives compiled), other references will be added up based on the work received in the Open Calls. Through this initiative, the Biennial will leave a legacy to the city, collectivizing the access and opening the debate about an array of initiatives that target the urban transformation. The culinary reputation of Paris is very rich, cultured and diverse. Thus, this competition is intended to initiate a conversation on the modern city life founded on nature, involving topics such as local vs global, tradition vs future, Eastern vs Western, landscape vs city, nature vs living habitat, preservation vs development, intention vs reality. The unique mountainous landscape of Guizhou has its own regionalism characters, that inspired many poets to write down grandeur and sensational lines.

Studio Gang and nAOM Selected as Finalists to Redesign Paris’ Tour Montparnasse

Studio Gang and nAOM (Franklin Azzi Architecture / Chartier Dalix / Hardel-Lebihan Architectes) have been selected as the two finalist teams competing for the redesign of Paris’ infamous Tour Montparnasse, beating out a star-studded shortlist that included OMA, MAD Architects (China) + DGLA (France), Architecture Studio, Dominique Perrault Architecture, and PLP Architecture.

The competition asked teams to submit a vision for the tower that “not only creates a powerful, dynamic and bold new identity for the Tour Montparnasse but also addresses all the challenges involved in terms of user accessibility, comfort and energy performance.”

Have you ever had the idea to occupy a space that is soulless and lacking of identity? When you are in a transitional space, for example, can your surroundings leave you any meaningful/memorable expressions or a positive impact?

Residual spaces. They are spaces of nothingness, physically and psychologically. Ironically, their widespread existence tend to be abandoned/forgotten and considered useless and hopeless.

"Lost and Found" challenges you to explore and address meaningful expressions of these spaces. How far can we dig in the potentials that correspond to the surroundings of these residual spaces? Either solving an issue or embracing a local phenomenon, architecture contributes to kick-start positive changes to our society.

Just look around you.
After all, they are just lost spaces, in need to be found.

U.S. Department of Energy Race to Zero Student Design Competition (Race to Zero)

Collegiate institutions can start planning for the U.S. Department of Energy Race to Zero Student Design Competition (Race to Zero), which is at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, April 21–22, 2018.

The Race to Zero is an annual competition, open to students and faculty from any interested collegiate institution. The competition challenges collegiate teams to design zero energy ready buildings that are so high performance and energy efficient that all or most annual energy consumption can be offset with renewable energy. Through this competition, future architects, engineers, construction managers, and entrepreneurs gain the skills and experience to start careers in clean energy and generate creative solutions to real-world problems.
