Text description provided by the architects. Located in the Ring Road area of Medan city, this house stands on an area of 15x60 square meters. The owners wanted a home where they could gather in one large living room and all bedrooms had to be accessible and visible from the living area. Built to accommodate a family of 6, who crave privacy from the outside.
The building is made to look massive from the front but has many openings inside. The sloping garden at the front was created as an effort to 'soften' the massive front so that it blends in more with the surroundings. The space under the sloping garden is used as a storage room and generator. The building mass is formed from two axes, the intersection of the two axes formed a space that became a large living room. The zoning of the house is divided into 3 layers, with the main orientation of the building facing the rear garden, the farther back the more privacy the room has.
The front area closer to the main road is where the service area is located, aiming for easy daily access from outside the house, and being a separated zone from the main building. The guest room is also placed in a semi-open area at the front of the house, to maintain privacy when guests come to visit. The central area is a semi-public area, consisting of a living room, dining room, kitchen, and family room with wide openings and a terrace leading to the back garden. The entrance to the house is in the middle of the building, directly facing the central garden, which is the main access to the family room or service area.
The back area is a private area, where the bedrooms are located. With its position at the back, the bedroom can still get a wide view of the garden. Just as the building masses adopt simple shapes, so do the materials and colors, using muted colors with wooden floor materials and rough cement textures that cover the building facades.
