Text description provided by the architects. The Kindergarden is located on Føynland, outside Tønsberg in Norway. The plot was a flat field with beutifull lighting and view to the south. The main idea was two create a building wich was inviting from all sides and organized around a gymnasium / play room as center and the nerve of the daycare.
Knerten kindergarten is planned with 3 departments organized around a gymnasium/play room. The building opens to the south, provides sheltered spots and welcomes children from all sides. The institutionhas a great variety of rooms, physical activity has been an important criterion for the design of the nursery.
The administration and the department share connected by the play room over two levels providing good contact and unity in the kindergarten. Large windows in the facade and roof create good working conditions and lighting for both children and adults all year round.
The kindergarden have exterior cladding standing of ore pine from Alvdal in Norway. The roof is covered with dark gray roof membrane with list thatching. Inside,the walls are white with neutral floor while the gym has received a warm yellow covering. The different window sizes and sections create a close contact with the surrounding landscapeand makes "images" on the walls and lightens the rooms in in different ways.
