Text description provided by the architects. The starting point for the design of this project was a tribute to the architectural image projected by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, for this purpose we used a tile specially designed for the project and displayed them as a large mural outside.
The building is located in a corner of an avenue with regular traffic and a pedestrian passage which leads to a large park, which is why we decided to close the view of the avenue and focus the views of the apartments fully on the park, complementing a solution to the acoustic issue generated by the avenue and the visual privacy of the residents of the building.
The building consists of seven duplex apartments, on the first level there is parking and the main entrance to the building, where a mural was also designed in a lower scale, similar to the one on the facade. Initially, the design conceived eight apartments. It was then decided to unify two of them and to externalize the importance of the new apartment with a greater area through a large frame of exposed concrete, forming a balcony over its entire length and to give depth to that side of the side facade.
The overall building projects defined and simple planes containing natural materials, on the first level as a large base, we proposed an aged wood lattice; the upper floors form a kind of floating volume which presents an ambiguity of materials, a solid plane with a large mural of handmade decorative tiles and metal mesh; and on the other side of the volume, a light and translucent metal and glass plane.
The Córdova Residential Building, named after the avenue where it is located, was designed for the architecture to show great strength and character to help build the identity of the area, and at the same time it is simple for the building to become integrated with future constructions in the surrounding area.
