Text description provided by the architects. The new apartment building for the young and the young at heart is located in the center part of the small town of Sarnen.
It contains six studios and a workshop on the groundfloor facing the street. Seated on a very narrow plot, the tower-like volume is asserting itself confidently against the surrounding buildings thanks to its caracteristic floorplan and the expressive roof shape.
At the same time, the building acts as an intermediary between the adjacent historical buildings and the abstract flat-roofed modern edifices.
All the appartments consist basically of one continuous open space which is compartmentalized by a wooden box that allows to separate bathroom and bedroom with sliding doors if privacy is required.
Within the duplex-penthouse, the same principle is adopted and transformed into a sculptural staircase with an internal balcony that offers a stunning view into the surrounding swiss alps through the two-story window.
