Text description provided by the architects. The Project consisted in the expansion and remodeling of a XX century house, located at Cerro Cárcel, Valparaíso-Chile, which is part of the historical conservational area, actually protected by UNESCO.
The three story brickwork, adobe and wooden building is placed in a hill with a heavy slope. Project consisted in restoring and adapting the existing structure to the new uses requested by the customer, this is; housing, restaurant and preserves manufacturing.
It was decided that each of the three original floors would have an independent access according to theaforementioned programs.
An attached metallic structure volume was proposed, in order to connect each program by the use of an external stair case, ending in a new level, as part of the housing program.
This new ordering element appears as an open volume in the public first and second floors, distributing towards terraces with vegetables cultivation, food treatment warehouses, preserves factory and restaurant.
In levels third and fourth the aforementioned element is closed for linking the two housing floors, in which the third level corresponds to the housecommon areas plus bedrooms, being in the fourth level the master´s suite plus terrace.
