'I just blew off the architecture profession, really. I mean, I have blown it off in my mind as a profession because it’s not addressing the issues that we face. So I coined a new word called ‘biotechure,’ and I use that. I would say I’m a ‘biotect.'
In this segment of Archiculture, Arbuckle Industries interviews Michael Reynolds, an architect (or self-proclaimed 'biotect'), environmentalist, and founder of Earthship Biotecture inside of Reynolds’ “Earthship” house. The building, as Reynolds explains, is a carbon-zero house where a family of four could comfortably live without outside input. Reynolds goes on to display the low-tech sustainability practices in the house, and explain how sustainability and environmental consciousness have changed in the field of architecture.
