Text description provided by the architects. The new indoor swimming pool of Voorthuizen is situated in a landscaped lawn surrounded by a forest. To the southwest side of the new swimming pool a spraypark with waterplay elements will be built as part of the terrace. At the northeast side the entrance square is positioned with its orientation towards a new main road. The building and terraces sit on a 1,5m high plateau. Positioning the outdoor spaces to the sides of the building maximizes the lawn area and gives the building a prominent position.
The building has been designed as a stone block with contra masses cut out of it. The shape of the cuts has been designed to compliment the function and its orientation. The exterior materialisation is anthracite slate with the cuts having a warm anodised aluminium tint. The interior is bright and neutral with the cuts being accentuated with light wooden panelling. The simple and clear structure of the building enables the building to be overseen by a single employee.
