We teamed up with Building Pictures, Filipa Figueira and Tiago Vieira to feature weekly episodes of their video series “Arquitectura à Moda do Porto,” which highlights Porto’s most significant buildings over the last 20 years.
The series was launched in December 2013 and is comprised of 10 episodes, each focusing on a different theme: light, stairs, balconies, nature, textures, doors, windows, skylights, pavements and structures.
Last week we presented the series’ fourth episode on Porto's natural environment, and now we present Episode 5 – Textures. Read the producers’ description of the video after the break.
EPISODE 5 – TEXTURES
We start by feeling the concrete of Balonas & Menano Architect’s Passeio dos Clérigos, Paulo Providência’s S. Nicolau Public Baths and Pedra Líquida’s Casa do Conto. After touching the rough stone of Eduardo Souto de Moura’s Casa das Artes, we go to the soft marble of Siza’s S. Bento Metro Station. On the way we feel Fernando Távora’s Torre dos 24 and Barbosa & Guimarães' Viela do Anjo. From the porous red brick of Siza’s FAUP and José Manuel Soares’ Porto Planetarium, we go to OMA’s Casa da Música, which has variety of textures, including plexiglass, travertine stone and different kinds of metals that we can also find on ARX's Blood Bank and Eduardo Souto de Moura’s Manoel Oliveira Cinema House. We finish with Siza’s tiles on the SAAL Bouça Housing and S. Bento Metro Station.
