Text description provided by the architects. After more than 20 years of use, the Radiant Bellevue had to be rehabilitated to adapt to current standards and practices (change bleachers, setting accessibility, replacing the sound system, renovating the reception area and refurbishment of the facades) .
Beyond simply responding to the program, the project was an opportunity to reconnect the Caluirards and more widely the inhabitants of Rhône-Alpes with the wonderful scenery of the Balmes of Caluire (small hills in the Rhône-Alps region). In this purpose, most planned developments have been designed toward the new relationship that the cultural center will have with his "Grand Landscape of the Monts d'Or."
A New entrance
The historic entrance of the Radiant-Bellevue was on the back-side of the building, turning his back to the landscape but facing the principal street of Caluire-et-Cuire. The architectural team decided to move up front this entrance, creating a new esplanade which will take advantage of the unique point of view on the surrounding landscape and will connect to the architecture of the town hall.
In order to protect the hall form the sunlight, the architect added vertical, bicolor shades made of aluminium that would lessen the thermic impact on the glass facade while style offering transparency. The old entrance is transformed into a signaletic facade made of steel blades.
The lobby
This new acces leads to a new lobby that includes a bar and a reception made of the same wood and steel. The ceiling is punctuated with lights that create a homogeneous atmosphere at night and bring a magic lantern effect from the outside of the concert hall. The curved shape of the lobby is followed by the glass facade that opens the view on the balmes.
A Belvedere
Following the curve of the lobby, the creation of a terrace offers a unique point of view on the landscape surrounding the Radiant-Bellevue. Made out of a steel structure and a wooden floor (massive larch), this new outdoor space adds a unique perspective for the artists and the spectators.
The Concert Hall
The concert hall introduces a new moving bleachers system that can accept up to 700 seated person or 2500 standing person when retracted. The hall is also rehabilitated to the current standards of accoustic and scenography.
