Text description provided by the architects. It is the duplex house built in the area letting you feel the tolerant expanse with a lot of temples, which has a history of more than 400 years. The client requested to enable to live by a wheelchair for their parent and the high ceiling space.
We put a house to the west of the site, placed a big garden on the east side with the private road between neighbor’s site, and treated a house and a garden equally. We gathered up the rooms on the east side to be next to a garden and secured lighting and the ventilation, and the rooms and a garden had a relationship in each.
The passage that spreads out without a step from front road to cross the rooms runs through the whole house. The big open to below space takes on the central role of this house to connect the rooms and a garden, and the top and bottom floor.
It is also as a device creating comfortable indoor environments by a wood stove and a floor heating. We examined the detail to be the right stuff in the right place while using various materials for every room to harmonize a part with the whole.
