Text description provided by the architects. The project is about renovation and extension of an apartment located in Paris. The existing surface, about 30 m², is totally rethought and completed by an extra space rehabilitated in the attic.
The concept is to structure the inner space by functional stripes. They integrate storage unit and define the various living entities.
The first stripe set between the entrance and the dining and living area. It integrate kitchen cabinet and storage unit.
Wood panels set on the walls, on the floor and on the ceiling, finalize this functional unit.
The second stripe, which is a alternating-tread staircase, leads to the bedroom located inside the attic. Storage unit are installed under the staircase. This staircase stripe extends on the floor and goes along the wall up to the ceiling to create bookshelves. This emphasizes the spatial relation between the two levels.
The dining table can be dismantled so its legs mount onto hooks on the wall and the surface can be mounted up between the windows.
Orange is used throughout the apartment in accents including coat hooks in the entrance, the tiling behind the kitchen surface, the dining stools and the lighting in front of the staircase.
