Text description provided by the architects. The client is a professional windsurfer and his brother, who wanted a house in Matanzas to seasonal change along the year, and take advanced of the waves and winds conditions in Chile. The commission work was a house as a small hotel, so each bedroom is independent from the rest.
The dwell was desing with independent volumes, one for the public area and the other more private. The first contains the fire zone, tv, living and dinning room, kitchen and in the ground floor, there is a gym and a storage. The second volumen is placed at a intermediate level, containing three bedrooms with bathroom en-suite and a guest bathroom.
It was important to close the house to the south protecting it from the strong winds and storms. And open to the north with shaded terraces, as an intermediate space between the environment and the interior. The height of the house is defined in terms of the views, overlooking the bay of Matanzas. The living-dining area is the highest above the natural ground level. The bedroom volume is half level lower to have more privacy.
The house is entirely built out of timber. The whole skeleton is impregnated with carbolineum (black color) and the cladding of the walls in dark brown. The interiors were worked with white walls and ceilings. The floor is made of wood. The construction was considered in a simple way, only with local wood and labor.
Seeking the way to build the house the most economical as possible, we used materials standard dimension (plywood, exterior and interior timber facade, etc).
