This isn't just a gallery, but an architectural studio. This refurbishment of an old building exposes the original brick work, which mixed with wood results on a very warm interior space, contrasting with the white walls of the gallery.
This project was shared by AxD, who reached us through our contact form.
Brief: Renovation of an urban storefront and warehouse to accommodate dual program of a contemporary art gallery and architectural studio.
Program: An emerging architectural firm used the need for additional space as a catalyst for creating a street front gallery for contemporary visual art as part of their relocation.
Cohabitation: The uniqueness of the site appealed to the design team, a zig-zag merging of three parcels; encompassing a live-above store front, a former liquor warehouse and a service yard. Not only did this permit separate front and service entrances, but allowed a natural coexistence of the gallery and studio without doors.
