Here we present the Primary Care Center in Carnet, developed by the Catalan office of Conxita Blacells, an architect who belongs to the collective Plataforma 8E, presented in Chile as part of the XVII Architecture Biennial in Santiago.
The center hosts a number of medical areas in a building comprised of two floors.
The Center for Primary Care (CAP) is located on a portion of the existing underground parking, which allows us to define an area for facilities and assets of the municipality, articulating a large public square. We also enhance a back passage that relates the Domenech i Montaner museum with the “Teixit i Punt” school.
The proposal seeks to integrate the building into the site in a simple and rational way, with its main facade facing the square, with a skin of perforated stainless steel enclosed by a large black zinc plate frame. It is shown laterally, at a smaller scale, on the access road. On the other hand, in the passage, the building is integrated with the small residential buildings displaying a more fragmented volume, using zinc and plaster and paint.
The relationship between program and place has allowed us to lay out the more public area on the ground floor, whereas the restricted use areas are located on the upper floor. By dividing the program into two bays separated by a longitudinal courtyard, we were able to enhance the areas with facade towards the square by placing the waiting rooms there, while consultation rooms and offices are located on the facade towards the interior courtyard.
