Text description provided by the architects. The little emergency music school was built in six month in Palaiseau, few miles away from Paris.
It was designed urgently to replace the old collapsing 70'ies prefab standing on the site and unable to accomodate music pupils anymore.
The school is a slender wood monolith firmly standing in the backyard of the main building housing the music school offices.
The simplicity of our conception, the predominance of glass and the rigorous vertical alignment of larch blades found a special echo in this bucolic Basque revival style pavilion.
A simple glazed corridor distributes the classrooms and the 80 places panoramic auditorium. This corridor follows the whole structure to gives a linear view on the garden where stands the old walnut tree and the great cedar. No trees were harmed during the construction.
