Text description provided by the architects. This is the first stage of a Master Plan for the expansion of a school to be executed in approximately an eight years term. This building houses classrooms for 5th and 6th grades, restrooms for an area dedicated to sports, and an art hall.
The Architectural Design was conceived as two level modules, set in fractions and randomly placed in order to dilute their presence among the forest in which the building is located. The modules are located at the edge of a hill, which provides a green backdrop for the building. Furthermore, the classrooms are oriented with the goal to enjoy the view of the top of the trees and surroundings.
Exposed concrete was chosen as the prime material to emphasize the natural environment, which should be reflected in its educational task. Raw wood was chosen for the concrete forms, to establish a direct relationship between the forest that surrounds the building and the texture of the walls. The floors are terrazzo reinterpreted in a contemporary style.
