Text description provided by the architects. Building sited in the Campus of Tarragona university , dedicated to research in sustainable chemistry. The building is formed by two parallel bodies hosting a modular programme of laboratories and associated offices. The layout of the program and facility spaces allow to create independent work units, according to the needs of the moment. The two arms are articulated through a perpendicular and shorter body, that solves the common program of management, the main entrance and the facade to the street.
The exterior facades of the bodies of laboratories are formalized with a powerful structure of concrete, while the interior facades to the central courtyard are solved with a metal skin ventilated facade of perforated metal panels, lighter, which promotes the technological image of the building. The body under access is resolved with a basalt stone skin that is trimmed to generate only the main entrance. The placement of a "brise-soleil" made of reflective glass embedded in the concrete grid, allows to control the sun on laboratories, reducing air conditioning demands and improving indoor lighting conditions.
