The assignment was to design a second summer house for the owners of a farm located on Lake Panguipulli. This new construction was thought for their children and grandchildren to use for the holiday seasons, in order to generate independence from the main house.

The first thing we did was to design a simple, practical and functional place. A house that could exploit the space as efficiently as possible, resulting in a cottage-style house. This is emplaced on a hill with a gentle slope, favoring the views of the lake and to the Villarrica Volcano. The house is built on a square of 9x9mts that rises above the natural ground by a concrete base that protects it from moisture. Above this perimeter stands a wooden partition, that from a simple geometry, seeks to maximize the indoor-outdoor connection. Considering its location and climate of extreme rain, we decided to project the ceilings in two well defined parts, which are the key element of the architectural proposal that seeks to frame and contain the inside of the house.

The interior program is distributed from a public space that seeks to leverage each m2, eliminating any type of corridor. Thus, all environments complement each other in an efficient way. The access area is an open space that is integrated under a double-height ceiling. This level is the most private area of the house, which is independent from the rest by a staircase that faces the volcano and rises to an attic that is located above the living room.

The facades are worked independently according to their views, but under the same language of continuous coating (roof-wall) that gives body, contains, and highlights its shape.
