Text description provided by the architects. The Project consists on the refurbishment of the distributor space for the three larger warehouse volumes . It is located in the central hexagonal space of the Y-shaped Olarra Winery historic industrial building, housing exposition and commercial spaces. In the upper level, the programme is completed by including offices, professional visit rooms and a professional wine tasting teaching room.
The objectives were to design a cutting-edge exposition area while improving, rearranging and separating each of the different internal communications so they can work in a completely independent manner.
The chosen architectural shape responds to the strong geometry of the existing building. By grouping the exposition area, the shop and the bar within the same tainted-glass covered space that work as metaphors of the different types of wine, the different functions are well defined whereas it allows to admire the impressive atrium, structure and fabric of the original building, representing the mixture of historic and contemporary values of the Olarra Winery and the architecture itself.
