Text description provided by the architects. The library will be finished in 2012and completes the school extension in Gando. This library represents for us an important accomplishment since it allows access to education even to people beyond the school.
The eucalyptus rhythmicalfacade around the library creates a calm and open space in which pupils can isolate themselves to learn and to relax. It is the first time in Gando that eucalyptus wood is used for construction. In Burkina Faso, eucalyptus is usually used as firewood material since it dries out the soil and can only offer a small shadow.
The roof construction also represents a technical innovation: for the first time, traditional clay pots were used in the ceiling to insure, after their removal, light and air to circulate. Finally, furniture was integrated in the construction: per example, a big table was fixed in the center of the main room.
