After the building where their offices were located collapsed with the 2010 earthquake, the owners of this lighting company decided to move it’s headquarters to the sixth floor of a building located in the district of Providencia, in Santiago. Thus we were asked to design a new layout, which now required a larger number of offices, and a series of technical requirements associated to the exhibition of lighting equipment.
Our project sought a floor plan organization that promoted the use of common space, assigning an important part of the total floor surface to this end. This is where work desks, archives and machines will be located. Private spaces will be in direct communication with the central space through glass inscribed in wooden marquetry. Doors shall be the only opaque elements. Air, electricity and fire sprinkler ducts shall make their way into the offices through the doors’ upper section.
The floor’s general illumination is based on a regular grid, and will allow for the company to exhibit its products as it sees fit without altering its employees’ working conditions. Other specific lighting devices have been placed in the technical ceiling that runs across the private offices, and within the marquetry ‘s frieze, so that this true “fish tank” may become as much of a lighting testing area as the open hall which faces it.
