Text description provided by the architects. The Green Forest Athletic Complex reshapes the vision of thissmall public school district’s athletic program with sleek color and form. Located to the south of the previously designed modern middle school, the new stands and press box continue the proportions and aestheticwhich have become very identifiable sources of community pride within the Green Forest Public Schools Campus. By establishing a clear processional entry, the pulse of the athletic program is captured in a manner complimentaryto the fervor that sporting events demand in small southern public school realms.
This project redefines the athletic/academic edge of the campus and acts as a positive threshold for the multiple events and activities that take place on the site; An under-bleacher terrace offers space for fundraising and community activities that support the home team. The new design sports much-needed service facilities while the enlarged track, new stadium lighting and re-graded football field elevate the competitive game-play and hosting capabilities of the district.
Uncomplicated design decisions capture and invigorate this rural community. The ongoing work on this campus is a tangible sign that good architecture can positively enhance the everyday expectations in the realm of public education and athletics. Sustainability is inherently found in providing a project that is embraced by those who use it in the present and in the years to come.
