Text description provided by the architects. The brief for the project as presented by the Health Services Executive – Western Area is for the relocation of St. Anne’s Children’s Centre from their current location on Taylor Hill, to a new purpose built unit on a site within the grounds of Merlin Park Hospital. The brief identified five main functions within the new service as follows; Administration, Children's Inpatient, Therapies, Adolescent Inpatient and Special School.
The purpose of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services is to provide children and Adolescents who have mental or behavioural problems with appropriate levels of assessment and intervention so that they can attain and maintain a good state of mental health.
The focus of the in-patient unit and day patient treatment programme is to work with young people and their families to understand the nature of their problems and to identify clear goals for treatment and recovery. The unit will operate at the cutting edge of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Programmes striving to offer a seamless transition between in-patient, day hospital and community services.
