Text description provided by the architects. CONFEA’s new Headquarters is composed by ground floor, 4 levels, roof level and 3 underground levels for parking.
The free spam “vis-à-vis”, mixed with the flexibility of the floor plans organizations was certainly one of the main components of the concept of the project.
Basically, the ground floor is destinated for the main entry, reception and to the Plenary and its supporting areas.
The other floors (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors) are designated to the administrative use of the CONFEA.
For these floors, the open space plan was essential. There are no internal posts (there is a 22,50m free spam) so layout can be arranged in any form.
Such performance was obtained through the structural concept. The structure is a combination of concrete and steel. It is formed by central metal beams over a concrete structure with symmetrical internal cantilever of 3.75m. The unbalance caused by the load of the internal end is compensated by a cable-stayed (rod) of the external end of the cantilever. Al the rods areas anchored on the foundation wall, also responsible for the lateral contention of the underground levels.
From the ground level to the top, the plans are protected by a textile perforated membrane that protects also the main galleries.
The rooftop level was designed with a full restaurant to house social events such as lunch, cocktails, etc. The design of the restaurant received a special plastic treatment, diverging from the usual roof, making it a unique space, result of a metal arch tri articulated.
As a fundamental premise, the W3 and W2 avenues were integrated through the open space of the ground floor galleries. The landscape reinforces the intentions through de reflection pool which also contributes to the local climate (Brazilia haz a very dry climate). The reflection pool also integrate the new construction to the old CONFEA headquarter.
