Wolfgang Tschapeller shared with us their first prize winning proposal for the extension of the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. The removal of stair and elevator cores displays a pure serial structure. What remains are solely col-umns and slabs, ready for multiple functional readings. The broadway is not only a means of circulation, it is the platform where members and knowledge of the 17 different studios meet. 3XN Architects shared with us their competition winning proposal for the new university building in Uppsala, Sweden. Their design concept bridges the past and the future by extending the lines from the historical surroundings into an innovative structure. Integrated within the overall residential development of SuZhou 133: Baitang One, the aim of the kindergarten design by CPG Advisory is to provide a high quality, inspiring environment for early age education in the new CBD of SuZhou, China. The design concept is based on the famous children classic: Jack and Beanstalk. By using vines, leaves and beans as the architectural and landscape design elements, a kindergarten associated with the “Magic World” in the story of Jack and Beanstalk is created. The world-renowned architect, engineer and artist, Santiago Calatrava was recently commissioned by Yuan Ze University in Taiwan to design an ambitious new building complex for its campus. The ambitious project, which will consist of a Performing Arts Center, a new Art and Design School and the Y.Z. Hsu Memorial Hall, which is dedicated to the university’s founder, Mr. Yu-Ziang Hsu, will mark Mr. Calatrava’s architectural debut in the country. More project description after the break.
