Cladding System at Glauser Residence | Longboard®

Longboard manufactures premium interior & exterior aluminum building products in a wide range of woodgrain, solid color, specialty & custom finishes. Longboard's HITCH™ Cladding Attachment System, 6" V-Groove Planks and Link & Lock™ were used in the redesign of the Glauser Residence.

In early 2024, the Glauser Residence, a 1970s-era home, underwent a full renovation to improve energy efficiency and modernize its design. Led by homeowner Daniel Glauser, a member of the BUILD Show team, in collaboration with Designtrait Architects, the project aimed to retrofit the home following Passive House principles, reducing energy consumption and enhancing indoor comfort.

The renovation preserved the home’s original footprint, focusing on upgrading the building envelope and systems. Key features included high-performance windows, advanced insulation, and a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery. These elements work together to reduce energy usage and maintain consistent indoor temperatures.

This retrofit serves as a model for sustainable renovation, showing how older homes can be upgraded to meet modern energy standards. By following Passive House principles, the project demonstrates how to achieve significant energy savings and improved living comfort. The use of innovative materials and techniques underscores the potential to reduce environmental impact in residential construction.

Application of Longboard Products
The renovation utilized several Longboard products to meet both performance and aesthetic goals:

• HITCH™ Cladding Attachment System: This system was used to reduce thermal bridging and support the exterior cladding. Its design accommodates various insulation thicknesses, improving the home's thermal performance.
• 6" V-Groove Planks: These aluminum planks were applied as exterior cladding and soffits, offering a durable and low-maintenance solution. The Light National Walnut finish provided a wood-like appearance while ensuring longevity and resistance to environmental elements.
• Link & Lock™ Architectural Battens: Installed near windows as passive shading devices, these battens improved energy efficiency by reducing solar heat gain while adding to the home’s modern aesthetic.
