Easy to install, cost and time efficient, durable
USG develops innovative building and manufacturing solutions, enabling global customers to efficiently and affordably create sustainable and accessible spaces. For Stanford University's Escondido Village Graduate Residences, USG collaborated with California Drywall to deliver efficient, custom ceiling solutions that met the University's needs for fast installation and cost savings. USG’s Wall-to-Wall Drywall Suspension System and Sheetrock® Brand EcoSmart Panels Firecode® X were integral in meeting the tight project timelines and high-quality standards required for this five million-square-foot development.
Escondido Village Graduate Residences was developed to meet the growing housing demand for graduate students at Stanford University. The five-million-square-foot project required innovative construction solutions to ensure it could be completed within three years. The collaboration between General Contractors, Vance Brown Builders, California Drywall, and USG resulted in a highly efficient ceiling installation that reduced construction time and waste, ultimately benefiting both cost and schedule management.
Applied Products
Wall-to-Wall Drywall Suspension System
USG’s Wall-to-Wall system was applied throughout the graduate residences, particularly in corridors and small spaces, to eliminate the need for hanger wires and cross tees, speeding up installation. Custom grid lengths, including spans of 15 feet and 7.5 inches, were manufactured at USG’s Stockton plant, reducing production and transportation timelines.
Sheetrock® Brand EcoSmart Panels Firecode® X
These ultra-lightweight, sustainable panels were used throughout the building’s interior partitions. They were installed on the Wall-to-Wall ceiling system, reducing installation time and labor costs. Pre-packaging materials for each individual room further streamlined the installation process.
Sheetrock® Brand Mold Tough® Panels
Custom 54” Mold Tough® panels were manufactured to meet the needs of prefabricated assemblies in the project. The wider panels enabled horizontal installation, increasing productivity and reducing waste by up to 25%.
