Acoustical Ceilings at Children’s Hospital | USG

USG develops innovative building and manufacturing solutions, enabling global customers to efficiently and affordably create sustainable and accessible spaces. For the new addition to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, USG’s ceiling systems, including Mars™ Acoustical Ceiling Panels and Ensemble® Acoustical Drywall Ceiling, were selected to provide sound performance, durability, and streamlined installation in key areas such as the main lobby and patient rooms.

The hospital’s expansion required a high-performance ceiling system that would enhance the comfort, privacy, and healing environment for patients. The project team, which included Messer Construction, Triversity Craft Force, and USG Ceilings, worked together to deliver a ceiling solution that met both the functional and aesthetic goals set by the design team at GBBN.

Main Lobby

The design for the main lobby included custom curved walls transitioning into a grand cylinder skylight. USG’s Donn® Brand Rapid RTQ suspension system was used to create a custom curved drywall grid feature, supported by USG’s technical team who provided a detailed bill of materials and installation instructions. The USG Mars™ Acoustical Ceiling Panels were then applied to provide a clean, smooth aesthetic and premier sound performance, creating a calm atmosphere for hospital visitors and staff.

Patient Rooms

For individual patient rooms, USG’s Ensemble® Acoustical Drywall Ceiling was selected for its monolithic appearance and acoustical performance. USG worked closely with the design team and installation contractors, setting up a mock installation to ensure seamless execution on-site. USG’s representatives were available on-site to assist with the process, ensuring smooth installation and addressing any issues.
