Custom Decking in Bardolino Project | Sapiens

Sapien develops interior and exterior finishes from predominately natural materials with a value on aesthetics, sustainability and functionality. Sapien's custom ADK Decking Pro was used in the Bardolino project, located in Lake Garda, Italy.

Badolino is a public wooden walkway running along the lake for tourists and vacationers to enjoy during warmer seasons. The municipality of Bardolino del Garda wanted to source a sustainable material to construct the walkway, that didn't compromise durability. This area had seen the construction of various walkways in the past that didn't stand the test of time. During the winter and flood season, lakeside walkways risk becoming submerged. Not the mention the impact of thousands of visitors walking along it each year. In the end, they opted for custom decking from Sapien which is anti-slip certified and highly durable.

The decking is made of Sapien's molecular wood. Molecular wood offers exceptional performance through its patented production process, ensuring superior stability and minimal dimensional anomalies. Its high workability allows for precise sectioning in flooring and vertical applications, reducing defect risk. As a sustainable option, it has a long lifespan with no maintenance needed, even in direct ground contact. The acetylation treatment with acetic anhydride enhances its stability, achieving Classe 1 durability.

The project features flooring with a striped anti-slip finish. The medium-clear oil treatment mimics natural UV oxidation, eliminating the need for maintenance after installation. It was installed on a variable warp steel frame, secured with visible steel pins in a predetermined layout.
