Shade Factor is a leading Australian specialist in custom-made, high-performance and long-lasting shading products for residential and commercial buildings. External Venetian Blinds from Shade Factor were used in The Shade Home, located in Melbourne, Australia.
The Shade Home, designed collaboratively by Seidler Group and Mim Design, is a residence that contrasts an existing heritage home with a contemporary extension. The home’s design is defined by natural materials, including stone and timber, which create a warm and inviting atmosphere. A key feature is the expansive double-height void in the main living area, which floods the space with natural light and enhances the open-plan layout.
To manage the light entering through the large glass façades, Warema External Venetian Blinds were installed. Shade Factor provided the motorized blinds with 80mm flat slats, integrating them into the home’s design to offer adjustable shading. This solution was chosen to protect high-end interior finishes from excessive sunlight while maintaining the home’s clean, modern aesthetic. The blinds can be retracted completely, ensuring views and architectural lines remain uninterrupted.
The Shade Home incorporates a range of sustainable features, including energy-efficient glazing and water-saving systems, which, combined with effective sun shading, contribute to the home’s overall energy efficiency. This project demonstrates how thoughtful design and advanced shading technology can enhance the comfort and functionality of a modern residence.
