More about this product

Shade Factor is a leading Australian specialist in custom-made, high-performance and long-lasting shading products for residential and commercial buildings. External Bi-Fold Screens from Shade Factor were used in House on the Bay, located in Melbourne, Australia.

House of the Bay is a residential project designed by Lovell Burton Architecture as a modern coastal retreat at the beachfront location of Brighton. The design is characterized by large glass façades providing uninterrupted views of Port Phillip Bay—blurring the lines between the indoor living space and the outdoor natural environment. The open-plan layout extends to outdoor areas inviting natural light inside.

The coastal setting presents challenges regarding sun exposure and privacy. To address these, Shade Factor supplied and installed motorized external bi-fold screens by ADI. These screens allow occupants to control sunlight and reduce glare while maintaining privacy (especially important in a setting where neighboring properties are nearby). The screens are custom-designed to complement the home’s modern aesthetic and can be neatly folded away when not in use.

The motorized operation of the screens ensures adjustments can be made quickly and easily, adapting to changing light conditions throughout the day. This flexibility is crucial in maintaining a comfortable indoor environment while preserving the home’s energy efficiency. House on the Bay is a prime example of how custom sun shading solutions can be tailored to meet the specific needs of a coastal residence.
