More about this product

Pilkington UK, part of the NSG Group, provided the glazing solutions for Maison de Radio-Canada, a state-of-the-art media complex located in Montreal, Canada. Pilkington Suncool™ was selected to enhance the building's performance, ensuring comfort and energy efficiency throughout the year.

The Project
CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s national public broadcaster, recently moved to a new creative hub designed to foster collaboration and creativity through bright, open spaces. The new Maison de Radio-Canada, located a short distance from its previous concrete headquarters, was built as part of a major site revitalization project in Montreal, Quebec. The facility comprises two glass buildings with a total footprint of over 6,100 m² and spans seven floors. It features an expansive atrium, open-plan TV and radio studios, green spaces, and a rooftop terrace. The architectural design by BLTA incorporates both a four-storey and a seven-storey glass façade, designed to boost creativity and collaboration among the broadcaster’s staff.

Products in Use
To address Montreal’s extreme seasonal conditions, glass designer and manufacturer Prelco selected Pilkington Suncool™ for the Maison de Radio-Canada project. Pilkington Suncool™ 66/33 was used extensively across the building’s façade to provide effective solar control and thermal insulation. The product helps prevent overheating during the hot, humid summers by reflecting solar heat, while its insulating properties retain warmth during the freezing winters, achieving a Ug-value of 1.0 W/m²K. The glass’s low-emissivity properties and aesthetic appeal contribute to a consistent, modern look, with 7,897 m² of Pilkington Suncool™ 66/33 and 465 m² of coated spandrel units enhancing the building’s overall design. These features also contribute to the building’s LEED Silver equivalence, reflecting its commitment to sustainable building practices.
