Roofing Membrane in Turkish Transport Station | Elevate EMEA

Elevate has a 40-year legacy of proven experience in roofing solutions that perform reliably and protect communities. Elevate's UltraPly TPO roofing membrane was used in the construction of the New Trabzon Bus Terminal in northeast Türkiye.

As a result of the rapid development of trade and tourism in the city of Trabzon, the need to replace the old bus terminal, built in the 1980s became urgent. The municipality of Trabzon initiated a project designed to provide a modern and comfortable transport hub to the city, with a 3-story indoor space of 11,000 square meters on an area of 25 decares, including 28 bus platforms, a large parking area, a social area, restaurants, buffets, and a reading room.

Studio3 Mimarlik conceived a structure with an undulating steel roof. Elevate’s UltraPly TPO thermoplastic roofing membrane was chosen for its capacity to adapt to the slope of the roof, its flexibility, and its outstanding resistance to UV and ozone. In a region with such harsh weather conditions, it offered a sustainable, aesthetic, flexible, long-lasting, and easy-to-install roofing solution.

One of the biggest challenges of the project was the limited budget. In that sense, the UltraPly TPO system is very convenient when evaluated in terms of cost/service life, which played a pivotal role in the choice of roofing material.

The gutters of the bus terminal were originally also intended to be covered with the UltraPly TPO membrane. However, the application was too complex in terms of safety and workmanship due to the narrow area to be worked on and the edge areas of the roof. The local team recommended, then, the use of Elevate’s RubberGutter EPDM SA, a self-adhered EPDM waterproofing membrane specifically designed for gutters which is more flexible and easier to work with. Labor time was saved and the safety of the workers was improved due to the ease of application.

Elevate technical personnel regularly visited the site and collaborated closely with the Trabzon Municipality, creating a strong relationship of trust throughout the works.
