ALPHATON® tiles are a rear-ventilated brick module patented and produced by MOEDING, a German company dedicated to the design and manufacture of ceramic facade systems. These tiles are highly customizable, but their greatest strength is the simple modularity of their production and system. MOEDING provided ALPHATON® tiles for the facades of the Martini school in Freystadt, which was refurbished as part of a remodeling and extension project. The new wing of the school is distinguished by its brick cladding, composed of vertically profiled ALPHATON® tiles, which balance the horizontal disposition of the volume.
The educational complex, composed of 24 classrooms, was organized around central “marketplaces”, with open lounges and windows connecting classrooms and the common area.
The ceramic cladding of the new facade is non-flammable and, as with all MOEDING facades, it requires very low maintenance work and is resistant to vandalism. The material was chosen partly due to the origin of its clay, with ingredients mined locally in Lower Bavaria. Made in a special format for the project, the tiles are colored brown, with Anthracite metallic glaze.

The ALPHATON® brick, introduced to the market by MOEDING in 2001, is a rectangular tile meant for uniform facade coverage.
The facade system offers:
- long-lasting materials
- natural resources
- efficient production
- economical development through fast and efficient installation
- high individuality due to large design option potential
- energy efficient
- low maintenance
The extruded ALPHATON® brick slabs are made from predominantly native clays and are fully colored. Due to the very high firing temperatures and the long firing time, intensive colors and the best strength values are achieved. The brick slabs are double-shelled and 30 mm thick. The breaking loads of ALPHATON® panels are many times higher than those of single-skin panels. The tiles are resistant to weather stressors and their structure can be adapted for diverse climates, to facilitate ventilation or insulation as needed.
The vertical system that upholds the tile bricks is the L2R system, developed by MOEDING themselves.
This system is based on the L² Rapid System for horizontal format; however, it is adapted to the technical conditions for vertical format tiles. The tiles can assume the same shape as with horizontal installation; however, other tile geometries are also possible.
The L² Rapid System for portrait panels uses Ω support profiles. The new system allows a ceramic, vertical joint, which affords further, esthetic advantages.
